Scary Legends of the Silver Screen

A few weeks ago I decided to put the set of aquarelle graphite pencils to the test by doing a portrait of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster.

I really liked how it turned out. Obviously I used a photo as a reference, but I reckon the shadowing turned out rather nicely.

I received a lot of positive feedback from the piece and not long after the great Sir Christopher Lee, of Dracula fame, sadly passed away at the age of 93. Instantly I wanted to do a portrait of him in the same style. It took a lot of concentration getting the likeness as right as I could, but going by the feedback it turned out great.

You can see progress photos of Frankenstein’s Monster and Christopher Lee’s Dracula on my Facebook page.

Both these pieces are available as prints on my Society 6 page.

I now plan on doing portraits of other classic movie monsters but I can’t decide on whether I should do The Wolfman or The Creature From the Black Lagoon next! 🙂
